From the start of our city’s history, through the start of the national Chicano art movements, to the current cultural stakeholders that reside in it – the Westside of San Antonio has been an important and relevant community. Individual residents, artists, cultural organizations, schools and health and human service non-profits all have had a role and place in this transformation.
At its core, San Antonio is dynamic, because our roots run deep, our heritage is rich and the confluence of our cultures is celebrated. Our population and cultural influences are diverse, but it is the story and legacy of Mexican Americans that provides the foundation for making this a culturally relevant destination.
Today this spirit lives on in the district’s cultural art organizations and the Westside is recognized as one of the most authentic and culturally vibrant communities in Texas.
